Discernment in the Dark: Praying Through the Pain
Discernment in the Dark: Praying Through the Pain
There are days when my body aches so deeply I can barely move. When my chest feels heavy with sorrow. When anxiety swells like waves crashing over my mind, and depression lingers like a fog refusing to lift. It is in these moments — the midnight hours of the soul — that I am reminded of the sacred necessity of discernment and the power of relentless prayer.
Discernment isn’t always a loud revelation. Sometimes, it’s a whisper through the tears. It’s the strength to say, “God, I don’t understand this pain, but I trust You.”
We are not called to walk through suffering alone. We are called to pray — even when the words are broken. We are called to trust — even when the future feels uncertain. Prayer is not a performance; it is a lifeline. And in my excruciating pain, I have learned to reach for that lifeline again and again.
There is a temptation to give in — to let the heaviness silence our hope. But I refuse to stop praying. I refuse to stop trusting. Because I believe with every fiber of my being that God is going to do it for me.
He sees the grief I carry. He knows the battles in my body and mind. He understands the prayers I whisper through clenched teeth and teary eyes. And He is working — even now. Even here.
Discernment is knowing that no matter what I feel, God is still faithful.
So I keep praying. I keep pressing. I keep believing. Because I know I’m next in line for His blessings — not because I am worthy, but because I trust Him. I pray through discomfort, because my spirit knows what my flesh tries to forget: Only God can do this. Only God can heal this. Only God can carry me through.
If you’re reading this and you’re in a valley, know this — you’re not alone. Keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep discerning. Your breakthrough is closer than you think.
Romans 12:12 — “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
1 Thessalonians 5:17 — “Pray without ceasing.”
Psalm 34:18 — “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
God is near. And He is going to do it for you too.
With you in faith and healing,
I Rise and Roar
